Fionúir Mc Bennett, What is a play?

What is a play?

Sometimes people write plays about what they have learned or studied. Others write about their own life stories or experiences! Some people even write a play about their own personal dreams. It could be about your holiday, a funny situation, a routine, a dangerous moment, a song, an essay, for instance.

A play consists of a dialogue (conversation between two or more people) or a monologue (conversation with yourself).

Many elements make a great play. The characters, the plot, the learning
effect, the message, the settings and so on.

Scene 1 Act 1

Niámh: Hurrah, hurrah!! I’ve got the favourite seat!
Eláine: That’s unfair, you sat there yesterday and the day before yesterday!
Niámh: Well, I’m just faster than you!

Then Niámh needed to go desperately to the toilet and she forgot all about her seat! Eláine just slipped into Niámh’s comfortable seat and  then Shauna appeared on the scene! She switched on the TV. Niámh
heard the sound of the TV going on and dashed into the room.
She got mad, she got really mad and screamed …

Niámh: You stole MY SEAT!!!!!
Eláine: You were at the toilet and I don’t see your name on it!
Shauna: Why are you always fighting?
Eláine: You are no angle either!
Dad: Thanks girls for keeping the seat free for me! Most thoughtful of you!
All girls: No, that’s MY SEAT!!!!
